Foreword

Morris Chang, former chairman and CEO of one of the most successful
Taiwanese companies – industrial giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing
Company (TSMC) – said on an occasion: “Execution without strategy is aimless.
Strategy without execution is useless”. This is also true for standardization.
In Slovenian Institute for Standardization (SIST), we have for a long time been
endeavouring, not just to carry out our tasks, but also to bring these tasks as close
to the needs of our members as possible, and to carry them out in harmony with
the wider Slovenian business environment. Therefore, we wished to base our 2030
strategy on an objective view of our mission, role and work, and on an analysis of
the situation in the field of standardization, including all organizations and individuals
who are already familiar with standardization and standards, as well as those who
should know and use standardization and standards, but who – for different reasons
important to us – do not. As we wanted to carry out the analysis in a professional
manner, we decided to seek the help of external research experts.

The results of the analysis – mostly anticipated, but also instructive in certain
segments – as well as the facts on which our future strategies, plans and
objectives will be based, are now before us. We appreciate the response of each
and every individual contributing their views in surveys and interviews with the
researchers, and confiding to us their opinions, wishes, needs. The foundations
will be stronger, since we laid them together. Because there is no Slovenian
economy without national standardization, and there is no national
standardization without the Slovenian economy.
